CATS, The Musical Returns April 2009 to Singapore

CATs, the musical acclaimed worldwide by more than 65 million people will play at the Esplanade The Theatre from 10 April to 3 May 2009 with strictly no extension possible. The last CATS musical was staged in Singapore in 1993.

CATS tell the imaginative tale of a tribe of Jellicle Cats and their life stories as they reunite in celebration of who they are at the annual Jellicle Ball. At this annual celebration, the leader of the tribe chooses one of the Jellicle Cats to journey to the Heavyside Layer to be “reborn” into new life. While they wait, the Cats amuse themselves with stories of famous Cats of the past and present. They emerge singing of their unique and special traits.

The production boasts an entourage of 53 people including cast, crew and a live band. The casts from Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom had trained under Gillian Lynne, the original Westend musical’s choreographer. Delia Hannah will play the role of “Grizabella The Glamour Cat”. Delia last portrayed this timeless role in the amazing Australia production Cats Run Away With The Circus which trilled audiences in a massive tent venue touring main cities and out-back Australia!

CATS burst onto the London stage on 11 May 1981 and has been presented in 26 countries over 300 cities. CATs has won two Laurence Olivier Awards for the Best Musical and Outstanding Achievement of the Year in Musicals, an Evening Standard Award for the Best Musical, and seven Tony Awards including Best Musical, Best Score and Best Director.

The Singapore season of CATS is produced by Lunchbox Theatrical Productions and David Atkins Enterprises in association with The Really Useful Group.

With magnificent music composed by the legendary Andrew Lloyd Webber, including the poignant hit song “ Memory”, an imaginative set, inspired choreography and stunning costumes, CATS is a brilliant song and dance spectacular not to be missed.
