After the success of its inaugural outdoor opera performance in 2008, Singapore Lyric Opera returns this year with not one, but two performances – Opera in the Park and Opera at the Race Course. Once again spectators will be whisked away by well-loved and well-known arias (songs) that the crowd is sure to ‘lap up’ at the Singapore Botanic Gardens on Saturday, June 13 and at the Singapore Turf Club on Sunday, June 14 respectively.

An inspired lineup of masterful works by composers Mozart, Rossini, Verdi, Lehar, Dvorak, Mascagni and Puccini. Audiences will also be treated to Sartori’s Con Te Partiro premiered by Andrea Bocelli.

The Singapore Lyric Opera Orchestra will provide the lush musical setting, with the SLO Orchestra will be conducted by Joshua Tan Kang Ming. Joshua is a young Singapore conductor now based in New York, who is currently making a mark at the Aspen Music Festival. Joshua Tan won 2nd Prize in the Dmitri Mitropoulous Conducting Award in 2008. He was a recipient of Singapore Symphony Orchestra/MOE and 2007 NAC-Shell Scholarships and graduated with High Distinction from the Eastman School of Music where he also got the Book Prize and Kilbourn Chamber Music Honors Recital. Opera in the Park and Opera at the Race Course is an initiative that encourages Opera appreciation among residents and a public service of Singapore Lyric Opera.

Joining Joshua in Opera in the Park and Opera at the Race Course will be renowned local opera singer, tenor Lim Shieh Yih and young emerging singers, sopranos Li Yang and Kristin Solverson.

Singapore Botanic Gardens and Singapore Turf Club provide the perfect setting for romance and gatherings among friends and families too.

The hour-long performance features a programme which highlights operas that listeners will find favour with.

Admission to Opera in the Park and Opera at the Race Course is free.
