SHINE Youth Festival 2009

The SHINE Youth Festival is back for the fifth year with a line-up of adrenalin-pumping events for youths! Calling all youths out there, if you love parties and dressing-up, join us at Asia’s first-ever costume parade party in the heart of Orchard Road! Held to mark the launch of SHINE, the parade will feature more than 500 youths dressed in creative costumes reflecting their passionate beliefs in issues on the Arts & Culture, Community, Environment and Sports. Continue your evening with free public performances after the street parade and dance your night away at the party especially created for all youth. SHINE 2009 runs from 27 June to 01 August 2009. Stars of SHINE Nomination

Know someone between 13 to 35 years with an extraordinary life experience that has an interesting story to inspire other youths? Perhaps an individual who caused significant positive impact in your community? SHINE wants to honour these exceptional individuals for the annual Stars of SHINE award. Three categories are available this year namely; Youth Inspiration, Youth Contribution and Youth Venturer.

Stars of SHINE (SOS) is a youth role model award held concurrently with SHINE, a youth festival created by youth. The award was inaugurated in 2007 and it is jointly supported by the Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports and the National Youth Council.

The Stars of SHINE Award recognizes outstanding youths who have overcome personal struggles to make significant contributions to the community. Through the Award, they will serve as role models and source of encouragement and inspiration to other youths.

Seven youths were recognized for this award at SHINE 2008.

The objectives of “Stars of SHINE 2009” are as listed below:

(a) Highlight youths who have inspiring life-changing experiences that could inspire their peers;

(b) Profile these youths as positive role models to their peers and at the same time, showcase youth that have made a difference to other youth around them; and

(c) Provide development and engagement opportunities for award winners in related training & development programmes.
