Do you remember the good old days when our neighbours were amongst our best friends? We shared food with one another, borrowed necessities from one another, played with or helped look after each others’ children when they were busy, visited one another during festive seasons etc.

This year’s theme is “Celebrating Our Multicultural Heritage” and "Who’s Your Neighbour?” is the tagline for this year’s Singapore HeritageFest (SHF) 2009. Singaporeans, residents and tourists can look forward to discovering more about the people living around them - their cultures, traditions, practices, food, costumes, music and art – through the many activities such as Expedition H, My Neighbour’s Cuisine and Fun on Foot, the e-Challenge!

Singapore HeritageFest (SHF) is now in its sixth year. Since the inaugural festival in 2004, there has been a steady increase in visitorship. A record 1.6 million people visited the festival in 2008 and of those who attended, 90% of of the respondents indicated that the festival had been helpful in raising their sense of heritage awareness, desire to learn more about the cultures of the other ethnic groups, and in strengthening their sense of belonging to the nation.

The festival picked up the “Uniquely Singapore” Award in the 21st Tourism Awards in 2006 and won the Bronze Award in the 2007 Promotion Marketing Awards of Asia. SHF 2009 is a great way for families, friends, citizens and tourists to spend time together without breaking their budget as the majority of the activities and events are free of charge.

SHF 2009 is aimed at providing everyone in Singapore including citizens, residents and tourists of all ethnic and religious backgrounds, the opportunity to explore and celebrate this city-state’s rich multicultural heritage together.
